Sound good to you? Let's talk.

Hello, I'm Zack. I'm a professional engineer and former business owner. After successfully exiting my business I now work as a consultant and coach; With a passion to improve the world through work, and to help business leaders engineer greater success and satisfaction.

I currently work with sole entrepreneurs, partnerships, and small & medium sized businesses up to 200 people.

Purpose

I know what it's like to have the desire to improve one's business meet the reality of limited time, limited energy, and limited ideas.

My purpose is to help overcome these challenges by providing a valuable outside resource.
To help you improve your business.

Services

Business Operating System (BOS) Implementation

I experienced first-hand the benefits of systematizing my small business. By implementing portions of popular BOS systems such as E-Myth, EOS/Traction, Scaling Up & Rockefeller Habits our staff was able to grow and take on new roles more quickly while having greater confidence in their job. Meanwhile, I was able to more easily hire and train new staff, delegate responsibility, limit employee turnover; All while seeing improved company performance and profitability. Ultimately allowing me to spend less time in the office, and successfully exit the business.

My only regret is that I did not seek outside help to implement a Business Operating System. In hindsight, bringing in an outside resource would have greatly increased the speed of implementation and rewards of our BOS.

I became a certified Pinnacle Business Guide because my experience agreed with their approach of using knowledgeable guides to help companies implement valuable systems and approaches. In my opinion, their tailored, one-size-does-NOT-fit-all BOS model is the most effective method for improving the performance of small and medium sized businesses.

The Pinnacle process is a journey to systematize your business, align all the key players, and get everyone working towards the Pinnacle of your business's potential. The Journey begins with a multi-day "base camp" and is followed by regular scheduled milestones (typically quarterly) to keep things moving forward.

(See the Pinnacle Principle at the bottom of this page)

Coaching & Mentoring

I have been given lots of good advice in my life, but by far the greatest personal growth has come from the questions I was asked.

In my opinion, effective coaching is about posing the questions that cause people to reexamine their ideas about what they do, why they do it, and ultimately what they are capable of.

I have seen people experience remarkable growth through their own thinking and introspection. They just need the space, time, and prompting for this to occur.

Let's have a conversation. I'll bring the questions.

Fees

Typically a recurring commitment between $1,000 and $5,000 per month, though flexible.
Much less than the cost of a comparable full-time employee. Agreements can be canceled with 30 days notice.

About Zack

I grew up in western North Carolina. The oldest of three kids and a son of working class parents. My mother, a waitress, later a machinist, but always a talented artist. My father, framing carpenter and purveyor of good jokes.

I was fortunate to have extended family in all types of small businesses (accountant, barber, retailer, optometrist, veterinarian) allowing me to see the business world from many angles.

I graduated from NC State University  with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While most engineering graduates dream of gears, motors, and fast cars; I was fascinated with thermal and fluid systems. The systems that harness the energy of fuels, wind, rivers, and the sun; The energy that makes the modern world possible.

After becoming a licensed professional engineer I was brash enough, at 27 and on my own, to start an engineering firm. It worked out. Over 12+ years the firm grew to 18 full-time staff before being acquired by a larger, regional engineering firm.

Along the way I learned many lessons about running and managing the growth of a small business. Chief among them, your people are everything, harness their energy, it is what moves you forward.

I now work as a business consultant and coach with a passion to improve the world through work and to help small business leaders. They are the engines of our economy and the producers of our material prosperity.

Personally, I'm the ridiculously lucky husband of my wife, Jackie. Architect, designer, and lion tamer. We have two young daughters, Hadley & Abilene; And one furry, degenerate son, Bruce.

(Though Hadley calls him "Ellen" and I love it).

The Pinnacle Principle

In theory, running a successful business is simple. Get all the right people in the right roles. Focus on a shared goal. Understand your customers. Have a killer strategy. Execute at a high level.

In theory, flying is also simple; Just flap your arms fast enough.

For business leaders all of the above seem just as challenging.

To perform at a high level, intention and hard work aren't enough. You need the framework and tools to transform your effort into results. This is the idea of the Pinnacle. Divide the journey of your business into the five key elements shown below. Provide over 80 world class tools and resources to maximize each one. Have a trained and experienced guide lead and encourage you through the process. The result, a viable path to the Pinnacle for your business. (No arm flapping required).
